Howard Artificial Intelligence(AI) is all over the news and in your search engines. Time will tell the full extent of what AI will affect, but in library work, we already see changes. Authors are already seeing sham books being sold on Amazon. These are AI-generated books by authors that were never written. There are also AI-generated book summaries on Amazon. So what's a person to do?! Educate yourself! On September 17, 2024, at 6:30 pm our Assistant Director of Technology, Scott Morey, will be doing a presentation, AI FOR YOU AND I (https://www.tadl.org/ai) : An Exploration of Generative Artificial Intelligence. Scott is an excellent presenter and all around smart guy, so you won’t want to miss this program. Additionally, if you aren’t sure if a book you are going to purchase is truly by an author, call one of our reference desks and ask! Last year TADL staff answered over 97,400 reference questions. We love answering questions (it's kind of our thing), so when in doubt, give us a call! Finally, why not try one of the AI Servers out? I asked Chat GPT to write a short email in a casual tone about the importance of libraries. Here’s the results and I couldn’t have written it better myself! Hey everyone, I wanted to take a moment to talk about something near and dear to my heart: libraries! ?? Libraries are more than just buildings full of books (though, let's be real, that's already awesome). They're community hubs where anyone can come to learn, explore, and connect. Whether you're a student cramming for finals, a parent looking for storytime, or a curious soul researching your latest passion project, libraries have something for everyone. But it's not just about what we have; it's about what we do. Librarians are like your personal search engines, ready to help you navigate the sea of information out there. Need a recommendation? We got you covered. Want to learn a new skill? We've got workshops and resources waiting for you. In a world of screens and algorithms, libraries offer something special: a place to unplug, unwind, and get lost in the joy of discovery. So next time you're in the neighborhood, swing by, say hi, and see what's waiting for you on our shelves. Happy reading!
