All suggestions in the Woodmere drop box are reviewed by our leadership team twice each month, and sorted to the pertinent department for any needed followup. 1. Fornite - We do have Fortnite. It is on the computers in the Teen Department. (This is by far the most common suggestion.) 2. Have donated books for sale - We do have donated books for sale. They are located on the shelves under the main staircase, on either side. These shelves are managed by our fantastic Friends of the Library (http://tadl.org/friends) (FOTL) group - not library staff. Any proceeds from the donated books sold go to the FOTL. This is an ongoing sale, in addition to the spring and fall book sales organized by the FOTL. 3. Library conditions (heat, cleaning products) - The library HVAC system is set to a temperature and humidity that is optimal to maintain the condition of the collection. If you would like it cooler some of the north-facing near-window seats or a seat under an overhead vent might be a good choice. The library is professionally cleaned once during the day using the most scent-free products available. As a public building users should be aware that they may encounter other members of the public with perfumes, etc. and situations where K95 masks may help. The HVAC exchanges the air in the building with fresh outside air multiple times an hour. 4. More large print - While we do showcase our new large print on the first floor, please keep in mind that many new items may be checked out when you come in. Library staff are always happy to place holds on new books for you. Also, you may want to consider visiting the rest of the large print collection on the 2nd floor, right in front of the elevator, for additional selections. We will be increasing the number of titles ordered monthly for this collection in 2025. 5. Please get... - If you request an item through the suggestion box, and include your name and contact info on the slip, we will notify you if/when we have it available to check out, or we'll try to obtain it from another library for you. If the request is for an item missing from a series, there can be multiple reasons for its absence. The series may be out of print, it may no longer be popular at this location, etc. However, you can often find the missing series title or item you're requesting immediately via MelCat! Ask a librarian if you don't know how to use MelCat to request items from other libraries across the state Bonus item - pets. Only service animals and/or animals who are part of a library program are allowed inside the library doors. We do not prohibit pets from library grounds, nor can we prevent people from bringing them along and leaving them in their vehicles if they choose to do so. East Bay Branch Library (https://www.tadl.org/eastbay) East Bay Branch Library will be CLOSED for the holidays 12/24, 12/25, 12/31, and 1/1. We will also be closing at 6 pm, 12/26. Howard With Thanksgiving and the holiday season being so close together, it is a great time to reflect on gratitude. Various studies have shown that expressing gratitude is associated with a host of mental and physical benefits. So let’s be grateful for a few minutes together :) I am most grateful for the voters of Grand Traverse and Leelanau County who approved the library millage! This only happens once every 10 years so it’s an important time for the library. Support also comes through in the requests we receive for items to add to the collection. We always appreciate your requests, so keep them coming. You might have already noticed more books on the shelves and more e-books in Libby and Hoopla. Again, thank you voters! Next, I am grateful for the patrons, volunteers and donors who bring life into our library every day. Without all of you, our library would be a mere shadow of what it is: a vibrant community center. Finally, all of this doesn’t happen without the amazing staff and visionary Board leadership. As we close out our 25th year at our Woodmere Ave location, I thank past staff, directors, and board members who believed in the idea of an aspirational library and a place of common good, so that we can work toward a better future together.
