While I certainly hope that everyone has a wonderful and joyous holiday season it's important to remember that this time of year can be difficult for many. Additionally, those new year resolutions can add even more stress. What if we made a resolution to simply shine a light on our mental health & wellness instead? At TADL, we offer lots of ways to improve your mental health and wellness. First and foremost, is reading! Many studies show how reading can lower the level of cortisol (the stress hormone) in your body. Sometimes great music really helps. You can find all sorts of music in our Sight & Sound Department, or stream from local artists right now with TADL Waves (https://waves.tadl.org/albums) ! On a related note, our community is welcoming the new Grand Traverse Mental Health Crisis and Access Center - a collaboration of Munson Healthcare, Northern Lakes Community Mental Health Authority, Grand Traverse County and the Michigan Hospital Association. This facility opens January 9, 2025 and will fill an important gap in our community. Find more community resources on our website (https://www.tadl.org/community-resources) ! What’s in store for TADL in 2025? After three years of a very successful Strategic Plan, this year the library board is going to hire consultants to craft a new Strategic Plan. We'll be asking for your input to create our goals for the next 3-5 years. Watch upcoming newsletters and our website for more information about how you can participate in this important process. In the meantime, TADL will be focusing on literacy and communication during 2025. We’ll be reviewing what we’ve done and what we plan to do to really try and boost area literacy scores for children and adults. We’ll be reviewing our services, outreach, and our website. And of course we’re always trying to reach anyone who doesn't have a card, and keep encouraging them to use the library. Speaking of using the library, loneliness is an epidemic (with major health impacts) and the library as a community space is key. Feeling like you are a part of the community contributes to overall mental health and wellness. Please consider dropping in to our Volunteer Fair Jan. 21 (https://www.tadl.org/volunteerfair) . As a fun little surprise to brighten up the dark days of winter, we've hidden golden tickets in some of our materials. If you find one you can use it at the front desk for some TADL swag!
