Donating books and materials
When considering books to donate a good rule of thumb is to ask yourself, “Would I buy it?”.
We do NOT accept the following:
- Items that are soiled, moldy, smell bad or are otherwise damaged
- Magazines
- Newspapers
- Encyclopedias and Dictionaries
- Medical, health or diet books more than 3 years old
- Textbooks
- Reader’s Digest condensed books
- Boxes of the same book
- Audio cassettes
- Video cassettes
- Indoor plants
How to donate books
If you are dropping off more than a small box of books for donation please call ahead (231-932-8500) so we can make arrangements.
- The Library reserves the right to add your donated items to its collection or to sell them, give them away, or to discard/recycle them.
- The Library cannot accept donations on the condition that if they are not added to our collection, they will be returned to the donor.
- The Library cannot provide a formal appraisal of the items or assign a monetary value to gifts for tax purposes. An appraisal by a third party does not imply endorsement by the Library.
- The Library reserves the right to reject a donation when it arrives.
Please note, we cannot accept donations or gifts of indoor plants for the library.
