NMC Biology instructor Dr. Nick Roster will discuss how his biology students have spent a year surveying the environment in Grand Traverse County and beyond in search of how microplastics have invaded our environment. The research has a two-fold purpose:

  1. assess the level of microplastics in our environment
  2. expose students to authentic scientific research.

Dr. Roster will be joined by some of his students that have participated in the research project.

Speaker Bio
Nick Roster is a native of Traverse City, graduating from Traverse City Senior High School (before it was Central). After researching toads at Central Michigan University and rattlesnakes in Oklahoma, he found his way back to Michigan, through Wyoming where he met his wife. He is currently in his 19th year at NMC and has two sons at TC West Senior High.
