Happy New Year from Sight & Sound!

Happy 2025! The new year promises plenty of fun and excitement from the world of Sight & Sound:

Our new brick-red Stratocaster (whammy bar included) won’t stay on the shelf, and many new synthesizers are now circulating and (hopefully) inspiring Traverse City’s musicians of tomorrow.

Also, the Library of Things now boasts an awesome new sunburst-color, Squier electric bass guitar (It's big and bad), and for fans of our steel tongue drums, we now offer two 14” jumbo versions ready for library patrons to borrow and fill their homes with dulcet tones (or to just bang away and make noise).

As always, the new year will see lots of new music and movies to check out as well:

The Smile (a side project of Radiohead’s Thom York) has a new synth-laden, jazz-inflected album called Cutouts. Also, Ecuadorian ambient pop wizard Helado Negro (a Sight & Sound turntable regular) has a new release called Phasor, which will be arriving here on vinyl to welcome the new year.

And, for fans of outspoken, outlaw-style country music, the new release from Sarah Shook and the Disarmers will be tumbling into our new CD racks in January.

Among the new films welcoming the new year: “The Critic”,  with Ian Mckellen; “the Wild Robot”, an animated nature-meets-technology tale; and for fans of dark and gritty Sci-Fi, “Alien: Romulus” is now available on the TADL catalog.

The Waves local music streaming catalog continues to be a big hit as well, with songs from 17 local bands currently available to stream on the TADL website, and another round of artists due to drop on the service in 2025. Sight & Sound has long featured a large collection of albums from local artists for patrons to borrow, and we’re proud to now offer local music, free for anyone to stream (library account not required).
