It’s the start of a new year, which means it’s the perfect time to start a TADL blog just for teens!
Our New Year's resolution? Remember to actually post!
New Year’s in Michigan might have already come and gone, but for many other cultures, it hasn’t actually started yet! Lunar New Year’s (also known as Chinese New Year) is one of the most popular New Year’s celebrations around the world and takes place on the new moon of the first lunar month of the year. This year it will be taking place on Wednesday January 29, so mark your calendars if you’re interested in it.
The Lunar New Year is usually represented by one of the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac, which is a treat for any animal lover to hear! In 2025, it is the year of– *drumroll please* the one, the only– Snake! Aka, one of the most underrated cuties of the animal kingdom.

Before you disagree, think of the bleps! So. Cute!
Still not convinced? Maybe these snake fun facts will change your mind.
- Snakes smell with their tongues, not just their noses!
- Snakes inhabit almost every single continent on Earth– the only exception is the frigid climate of Antarctica.
- And they are incredibly boopable!
People born under the sign of the snake are thought to be intelligent, mysterious, and wise. Oprah Winfrey, Daniel Radcliffe, and Tim Allen were all born in the year of the snake. If anyone you know was born in the year of the snake too, see how they compare! The Lunar New Year is also represented by one of five elements– fire, water, wood, metal, or earth. This year, that element is wood.
