Leaf through something new this October at the library!

(TRAVERSE CITY) - The crisp days of fall are a great excuse to crack open a new book, and we have lots of great events planned as well. We welcomed an average of seven (7) new cardholders a day during September’s Library Card Signup Month. But anyone in our community is always welcome to come in and get a library card any time.

If you stop by Woodmere you will notice two new decals on the front doors. Plans are underway for a year-long celebration of two amazing library heritage events in 2024: 155 years of library services (the Ladies’ Library Association was founded in 1869) and 25 years at the “new” Woodmere library! In other building news, we've updated our Woodmere meeting room policy. Patrons and organizations may reserve meeting and study rooms 4 times per month at tadl.org/rooms. (Did you know TADL hosts hundreds of meetings a year for all types of groups and community organizations?)

    • Grades 3-5, ask a youth librarian about our new book club - the first book we're reading is Enemies in the Orchard. Author Dana Vanderlugt will be joining us Sat. Oct. 7 at 2 pm!

  • 10/9 - Special Indigenous Peoples' Day Story Time at Dennos! 11 am

  • 10/13 - Celebrate Earth Science Week with us during an after-hours Mini MakerFest Fri. 10/13! Guests include: TC Central Raptors Robotics, Challenge Island Northwest Michigan, Grand Traverse Conservation District, Pebble Pups (the kids version of the TC Rock Hounds, and TADL's Youth Services department. No RSVP needed, drop-in anytime 6 - 8 pm.

  • Sat. 10/14: Eclipse Day - Join us for a story-time at 11 am, craft, and STEM activity for the 10/14 "Ring of Fire" solar eclipse.

  • Sat. 10/21 Stellaluna - Interlochen Center for the Arts, 10 am McGuire Rm.

Join us for an in-person screening of the PBS documentary, 'Warrior Lawyers' by Michigan filmmaker Audrey Geyer. The film will be followed by a panel discussion featuring the filmmaker; Holly T. Bird, co-Executive Director of Title Track; and JoAnne Cook, JD, Appellate Judge of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians. (Event link with details )

'Warrior Lawyers: Defenders of Sacred Justice' is a one-hour PBS documentary that is particularly timely and relevant given our country's current reckoning with racial inequity and systemic racism. The program focuses on the stories of Michigan Native American Lawyers, Tribal Judges, and their colleagues who work with Native Nations, their citizens, and mainstream institutions to achieve healing and Sacred Justice.
