It’s March in Northern Michigan, and the sunny days recently have done wonders for our moods! Snow is fine for the first few months, but we’re sure we’re not the only ones who are ready for Spring to finally take over.
Luckily for us, we won’t have to wait long. Did you know that the official first day of Spring is on March 20th this year? That’s only 9 days away! (You hear that, Mother Nature? That means we’re expecting flowers and warm weather– not more snow!)
Other than the (hopefully) warm weather, Spring also brings with it one other great perk that we’re sure no one has forgotten about– Spring! Break! Vacation!!! We’re super excited about Spring Break here in the TADL teen section, so we’ve created some awesome programs to celebrate with you!
Curious? Good, just read on!

Starting off strong, we have Cooking for Teens: Sushi on Monday March 24th!
We’ve heard a lot of requests for cooking programs from our teen patrons, so here you go! Join our special guest Nicholas Battista and learn to make delicious sushi rolls for you and anyone else you want to impress!
Not sold? Here are a few other details that might change your mind.
- All participants will receive a bamboo rolling mat free of charge, so no one will need to buy them for repeat uses!
- All teens will get to choose between two tasty options to learn– yummy California Rolls or delicious Vegetarian Rolls.
- Sushi can be made with all sorts of ingredients– we’ll give you recipe cards that include other fun options to try!
Our Tiny Book Workshop will be taking the spotlight on Tuesday March 25th!
This one is pretty much what it sounds like– if you’ve ever wanted to make pocket-sized versions of your favorite books, come join us at the teen table.
Here’s more info!
- We’ll include any book from our collection that you want! Just let us know at the teen desk or email us at teens@tadl.org.
- These tiny books are super easy to make more of at home! Teens can take home any extra book templates they want.
Wednesday March 26th also marks a crafting day in the teen section– we’ll be hosting our Teen Craft: Polymer Clay program!
We’ll provide the clay, and teens can let their imaginations do the rest! Multiple colors of polymer (or sculpey) clay will be included, so don't hold back.
Need some ideas on what to make? Try:
- Vibrant clay beads
- Unique keychains or pendants
- Personalized magnets or pins
- Or even cool pen embellishments!
The possibilities are endless…
Last but certainly not least, the Teen Nerf Battle on Thursday March 27th is by far our most action-packed program of the week.
Visit us in the McGuire Room to compete for the title of Ultimate Nerf Champion!! Avoid table obstacles, team up, and combine strategy with pure raw skill to win the match!
You should know:
- Every shot counts! Participants will use single-shot nerf toys in this battle.
- Safety comes first! Borrow some of our safety glasses to protect against rogue nerf darts!
It might be cheesy but… teamwork really does make the dream work. Strategy and passion are the best tools to take your team to victory!
If any of those programs sound like fun, join us at the library for one or more. We’re looking forward to celebrating a great Spring Break with you!
