Tree work!
You might notice some changes around the Main Library, a tree service is here today removing some diseased and dying trees. Please know that we are very sad about this too, and if we could have kept all of them that certainly would have been our preference.
However, we had an arborist evaluate all the trees earlier this year and discovered a number of problems - particularly in trees that are in the smaller parking lot islands. You may have noticed that the trees had large sections of dead branches and were coming back less and less each year.
Future work will include excavation around the base of the American Hornbeams out front, to try and revive them, so you will notice that happen at some point as well.
The landscaping, like the building, is now 25 years old and in need of maintenance. We do plan to replant trees in areas where we can be more assured of a long-term healthy outcome. We are working closely with our lawn service to protect the plantings from damage as well.
Please note - this tree work is not part of the front lawn update project. It's just a necessary maintenance item, to protect library users and their vehicles.
Thank you!
