The grooviest summer ever!

Posted on:

Families are invited to get down with our most groovy Summer Library Challenge yet! Starting June 1st, everyone can sign up for this summer’s challenge and receive a most righteous t-shirt to wear about town. We have two different programs for our young learners and readers with a BINGO-based program for the Pre-Readers aged 0 - 5 and a points-based program for Readers aged 6 - 12. Sign up to participate in Beanstack and start recording on June 19th.

The Pre-Readers BINGO is chock full of fun, early literacy activities for families to complete at home- and if your days get too busy, you can substitute any activity for a book read together (in most cases, the adult reading to the child). Complete a row, column or diagonal each week and come in to earn a weekly prize (more on those below). Complete the whole board and be entered into our Grand Prize drawing. You are welcome to record your activities on the BINGO sheet in your registration packet or right in Beanstack, too (there is an app available for most smart phones).

The Readers program is a points-based program based on reading minutes (or the time they spend reading). For every 20 minutes of reading, readers will earn 20 points. Their goal at the end of the program is to reach 600 points (5 days each week with 20 minutes/day X 6 weeks = 600 points!). But Readers can also earn 20 points for each of the following activities: checking out a STEM Kit, working on a craft kit, attending a library program, having a family night, working on a collaborative art project (there will be one in their registration packet), and more! They can earn virtual tickets for the Grand Prize drawing at 300, 600 and (if they extend themselves) 800 points. And they can read or listen to anything they want: fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, magazines, and more (just not social media or texting).

Speaking of prizes, we have more than you can shake a stick at. Plus we have a new spinning wheel for our weekly prizes that families can take a try at to see which prize category they receive (We promise the prizes will be fun!). We’ll also have weekly drawings for prize bags for readers who reach their 100 minute goal by Sunday of each week (These prizes will be announced) Monday morning. Our Grand Prizes are available to see in the Beanstack app. And once you start receiving tickets, don’t forget to put your tickets in there (Beanstack) for the prizes you are interested in. We’ll reveal the winners of the Grand Prizes at our Finale Parties on Monday, July 31st (11 AM for the Pre-Readers and 6 PM for the Readers, Teens and Adults). There will also be family prizes for families in attendance at the 6 PM Finale Party, with prizes from the Great Wolf Lodge, Dennos Museum, Discovery Cruises, and Paddle TC available via drawing.

It’s going to be the grooviest summer ever! We hope you can get down to the Youth Services Department (or any of our branch departments) for an out of sight time with us this summer (we didn’t even get to all of the great programs happening, but you can dig those on our Events page HERE). See you on the flip side!
